SUPPORTED SCANNERS
The “Read Me” file lists the scanners supported with this release of Ofoto Version 2.
Note that Ofoto does not support hand-held or sheet-fed scanners as these do not allow the original to be held in place between Prescan and final scan.
Ofoto does support some scanners with Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) attachments, but it does not control the ADF.
Ofoto does not support 1-bit black-and-white scanners.

WHERE SCANNER DRIVERS GO
Scanner drivers will always go in the System folder under System 6. Under System 7, drivers go in the Extensions folder.
REMOVING OFOTO VERSION 1 SCANNER DRIVERS
Although it’s not necessary, if you have Ofoto Version 1 installed on your system, you can remove the scanner drivers as long as you do this before installing Ofoto Version 2. Simply remove any of the following files from the System or Extensions folder: Apple Scan, Epson, G/Q/Z Scan, HP Scan, Panasonic Driver, Scanner, or UMAX Scanner.
SCANNER DRIVER VERSION NUMBER
If the version of the scanner driver on your hard drive doesn't match the version number described below, throw it away and reinstall Ofoto.
• AGFA
Ofoto Driver: “Agfa Scan” version 1.16.
Ofoto supports the Arcus, but not the Focus series. This release of Ofoto does not support the Arcus’ ability to scan transparencies.
• APPLE
Ofoto Driver: “Scanner” version 3.0.
If you are using a grayscale OneScanner, you may intermittently see a problem when scanning a small scan area whose width is 2.13 inches or less. This problem occurs only with grayscale OneScanners whose ROM is a version earlier than 2.04. (If you have a utility like SCSIProbe, use it to determine the ROM version.) If the area you want is smaller than 2.13 inches, scan a larger area, and then crop it in Ofoto. Note that Apple does not provide a ROM upgrade. However, it is possible to replace the logic board containing the ROM. Contact your Apple dealer for more information.
• EPSON
Ofoto Driver: “Epson Scan” version 1.30.
The ES-300C and GT-6000, as well as the La Cie Silverscanner, have two banks of DIP switches on the front of the scanner. Switches 3 through 7 in Switch Bank 2 (SW2) invoke gamma and color correction by the scanner. The best settings for use with Ofoto are the preset factory settings that scan for CRT display:

• HEWLETT-PACKARD
Ofoto Driver: “HP Scan 2” version 1.16.
• LA CIE
Ofoto Driver: “La Cie Scan” version 1.30.
The La Cie Silverscanner should have the same DIP switch settings described under EPSON, above.
• MICROTEK
Ofoto Driver: “G/Q/Z Scan” version 1.22.
Ofoto supports the following models: 300GS, 300ZS, 600GS, 600ZS, ScanMaker II, and ScanMaker IIxe. Ofoto also supports the 300G, 300Z, 600G, and 600Z Microteks with external SCSI boxes if they have firmware v2.6 or later. If your external SCSI Microtek was built in the '90s, the scanner is probably ready to work with Ofoto. If the scanner is older, you may need to upgrade the ROM chip for Ofoto compatibility. Call Microtek's Sales Department at 800/654-4160 to purchase the ROM upgrade for a nominal fee. Order "U22 ROM Chip v2.6". But first try Ofoto!
To determine the Microtek ROM version, run a SCSI utility like SCSIProbe (available at software stores). A SCSI utility will tell you the SCSI ID and the Microtek model name. If the utility reports the scanner's SCSI ID, but does not show the model name, then the version is earlier than 2.6. Or it may report the model name, but will give an earlier ROM. Alternately, you can open the external SCSI box to find the ROM version. Look for a large chip with "U22" on it: the version is on the label.

• UMAX
Ofoto Driver: “UMax Scan” version 1.16.
During installation for the UC 630 you will be asked to choose either firmware ROM version 2.4 or 2.6. When installing for the UC840 you will need to choose between the firmware ROM version 1.2 or 1.4. To find out which ROM version you have, look on the label on the bottom of the scanner. The number to the right of “F/W:” is the firmware ROM version.
With the UC630, ROM chips earlier than Version 2.4 are known to introduce a gray cast to scanned images. If you have a version earlier than 2.4, then you should call Umax at (510) 651-8883 for an upgrade to v2.6.
Note also that some scanners, such as the UMAX UC630, UG630, UC840, and UC1260 and the Microtek 300ZS, have dark or tinted lids that can throw off Ofoto’s Autostraighten, Autocrop or Autodetect features. This can be fixed by taping a large piece of white paper to the inside of the scanner lid.
